So, after getting infuriated with Vista, I uninstalled it and switched back to XP. I was setting the clock and switched the time synchronization server from time.windows.com to time.nist.gov. Then I started thinking, how frightening is it that the government seems to be the Lesser Evil in this case?
*shiver*
I think I’m gonna buy a mac.
why didn’t you like vista?
My biggest problem with it is with drivers. There aren’t any drivers for my scanner and according to the manufacturer there won’t be any. I ultimately had to tell vista I was using a different printer in order to print anything. Most importantly though, my sound card never worked reliably. Even using the manufacturers own vista drivers, the sound card never worked right. The firewire port never worked, and depending on the application, the sound was so so, to horrible. Granted these issues are vendor problems, not specifically MS problems. I even gave it a shot and tried it for a while before getting so totally frustrated I gave up.
I have a fairly new system, Dual Core Pentium 3.0 processor with 3 GB RAM, and a 256 MB video card. I even have a 1 GB flash drive that I used to make Vista even faster. My Vista experience score was just over 4, which is pretty good, yet running all of the fancy new features caused my system to run very slow. Much slower than XP without the flash drive boost. Only by disabling most of the Aero stuff could I get reasonable performance.
Lastly, vista is just plain annoying. They moved a lot of things around that really didn’t need to be moved, and changed things seemingly for the sake of changing them. The only thing this did was make it harder for experienced users to find stuff. But what was really annoying was all of the warnings about allowing programs to run, or applications to connect to the internet really just started to frustrate me. I felt like I couldn’t get anything done that I needed to. I know I can disable the user account control, but the two biggest selling points of Vista are the new visual effects and improved security. Since I’d disabled the visual effects for performance, and I was disabling the warnings for convenience, it told me that I shouldn’t be using Vista.
I reinstalled XP and all of my stuff is now working like it should.
I also feel the same! I tried vista, I have gave it 3 attempts, from RC1 up until now. I Hate it!
I am also testing (on a separate test machine) it for my job to see how much problems we will have when we decide to move teachers and students over to it, as of right now, I am going to say we will be holding off on that migration for another 2 years.
