Deflated

Posted on January 5, 2007January 16, 2007 by marcus

When my wife and I got back from Vermont, the week after Christmas, we noticed that our neighbors, inflatable, light up snow man, lay limp and dark on their front lawn. It was as though he had melted in the unseasonably warm weather. Much like this inflatiable decoration, I get a hollow, empty feeling every year when the holidays are over.

I enjoy the holidays and almost everything about them, the music, the decorations, the movies, the parties. The entire month feels like one long celebration. People seem to get caught up in the magic of it all. Then the day after Christmas the magic is gone. It’s as though a balloon were inflating for the entire month, then sometime during the early morning hours of December 26th, the balloon reaches critical mass, and bursts. Sometimes New Years Eve can recapture a glimpse of the joy of the Holiday Season, but it’s not enough to replace what had been built up.

My Friend Ian, in his blog, said that he was going to try to make Christmas a year round holiday. I have different reasons than he does, but it will be my goal to try to do the same this year. Hopefully, by keeping the spirit with me all year, it will alleviate that deflated feeling that comes at the end of the season.

Happy New Year!

*Editors Note: I don’t know why this wasn’t public when I wrote it on the 5th. Hopefully, you can see it now.
